transparency
to help you get rid of the smartphone problem forever, we need your trust.
to gain that trust, we want to be fully open regarding our shortcomings.
how does it work?
android device management
it is a solution adopted by
organizations to manage devices
offered to their members
it is meant to give full access to
most of the phone's data and
functionalities
therefore, we legally commit to
only use it for managing the list
of allowed apps and to provide our
minimalistic interface
we will not collect any user
information or data, or make use of
any functionality outside of the
purpose stated above
this is done through a special kind of app,
a Device Policy Controller.
it can gain a special type of permission,
the Device Owner (DO) permission,
which essentialy turns the phone into
a work device.
this allows kaiZen to block all
distracting apps,
and prevent it from being easily
uninstalled.
privacy
during the initial work-device setup required to install kaiZen, you may see alarming messages, such as:
"this device belongs to your organization"
"your it admin may be able to see your data and activity on this device"
"this device isn't private"
"your IT admin can set permissions for apps on this device, such as microphone, camera, and location permissions"
"your IT admin can monitor and manage settings, corporate access, apps, data associated with your device, and your device’s location information"
all of these are to be expected,
and are due to the Android mechanism we use to
minimalize your device.
we are essentially turning your phone into a
work-device, which gives us more access than a
normal app would have.
here is exactly what this means:
what we can and will do
disable other
apps, to maintain the whitelist
set up the minimalist theme
(home screen, icons, wallpaper)
prevent the uninstallation
of kaiZen without wait time
read the device’s
serial number
(for verifying used licenses
and free trials)
uninstall kaiZen apps
(Zen Garden, kaiZen Icons)
after the wait time
has passed
what we can, but will NEVER do
self-grant access to regular
app permissions (e. g. files,
notifications), that don’t
directly contribute to the
features presented on the
“how it works” page
install 3rd party apps
configure network or
connectivity
change system settings
disable device functionalities, such as camera, microphone
or screenshot
what we cannot even do
access personal messages
(Whatsapp, Signal, SMS)
access passwords
access browsing history
control or read your screen
monitor your internet
access without your consent
(which we of course won’t
ask for, because we don’t
monitor)

limitations
the Work-Device mechanism kaiZen uses may be powerful,
but due to its nature, it has the following incompatibilities:
